T.S. Roach is a very successful and knowledgeable financial guru in his mid-to-late forties or so who has taken to YouTube to share his many years of accumulated wisdom and teach you how to INFEST YOUR INVESTMENTS and make your money GROW!
At least that’s what he claims. The files and websites that occasionally flash across his desktop during his screen recording sessions—journal entries, homework assignments, artwork, an allpoetry.com account—seem to tell a different story. A story about a lovelorn, oblivious, distractible, weirdly musically talented teenager named Jeremy Gilbert. What’s really going on here?
When I started making The Stockroach, I was excited by one of the dumbest ideas I had ever had—a clueless teenager creates a fake identity on YouTube in order to get clicks and make money, but he accidentally reveals his entire identity and most embarassing secrets in the process. But the more I worked on this character, the more I came to really care about him, and a frivolous piece of comedy grew into a nineteen-month-long, multi-platform interactive storytelling experience that I hope was as moving as it was funny. Some people tell me it was an ARG but I still don’t entirely know what that means and also who cares.
