Premiering this August at the Chain NYC Film Festival!

Mrs. Gibbard is an elderly New Yorker who lives alone in a townhouse that is much too big for her. Her children and grandchildren are all busy living their own lives, so when she’s having trouble working her Amazon Alexa, her granddaughter sends a friend, Alisha, to go check on her. When Alisha arrives, she discovers that what Mrs. Gibbard and her house are going through is much stranger than a simple technology issue.

Part of the inspiration for this film comes from the work I’ve done with elderly New Yorkers. Since 2019, I’ve been the resident music director for theater productions at a senior center on the Upper East Side. Working with these folks, who for the most part have a beautiful social network and safety net, gives me a lot of appreciation for the many older people around the world who don’t have this kind of support network.

Old age can be very strange and isolating. In making this film, I tried to be honest about that isolation, and the difficulty of communicating across a generational gap. But I wanted to do it in a way that is genuinely entertaining, and I am immensely proud of the bizarre, surreal, earnest creation that this cast and crew was able to turn out.
